Maybe the badness of the school brooms is just legend - and it was
used more as an excuse for those who had average flying ability.

While those who are naturals (Like Harry - remember how well he did
on his first fly on a school broom) can do exceptional on an average
broom.

(Like fashion bodels who look beautiful despite wearing ugly
outfits - or Tiger Woods who can do very well chipping a rock
instead of a golf ball - much better than any one of us could chip a
regulation golf ball).

Another theory - In QTTA there was no mention of differences between
styling between men and women's brooms. (Like we saw a difference,
or a perceived difference, in Ron's reaction to dress robes). What
I'm trying to say is perhaps it was Ginny's mother's broom, perhaps
pink? and it naturally went to the daughter instead of the sons.
If it had fringe on it, I doubt Ron would want to fly it anyway :).
Or just family traidition: Mother's broom goes to the daughter.
