Don't forget by the time Ginny is ready to try out for Quiddich Fred 
and George have had those Galleons for a while. Possibly they bought 
her a decent broom and since she is obviously talented she is making 
the best possible use of it. Maybe it wasn't mentioned because it 
wasn't pertinent to the story line at this time.
