Yes, but a major problem is how do they get out?  Remember the 
chamber is deep under the lake.  Harry, Ron, Ginny and Lockhart were 
only able to get out by holding on to Faukes.  And before it is 
mentioned that the people who opened the chamber got out without the 
help of a magical Phoenix, they were also able to control the 
basilisk who was able to climb the pipes, so the obvious thing is 
the snake transported them.
