In the 5th/6th century, the Scottish border was Welsh-speaking (just in case
you wondered why I've got a Welsh signature which mentions Glasgow!) as were
all the lands in between. So people like Merlin and Taliesin were able to
travel between the two without any language barriers, which is why there are
references all the way from Carmarthen to the Forest of Caledon
I'm desperately struggling to think of a link to the Potterverse here and
can't so apologies to the mods in advance for that
