I was thinking the same thing! I was pratically screaming at the book
when he just stuck his head in the fire instead of just jumping
through. He was planning to leave Hogwarts if Sirius wasn't there
ANYWAY, and that would have removed the possibility of Umbridge
coming and catching him. I was REALLY worried both times they went
into her office...it didn't seem like ANYTHING was worth risking
getting caught by her. Did anyone else think their diversion plan was
really weak? I very much doubted that she'd believe Ron's word on
anything.

My other ARGH! moments:

In CoS when Harry doesn't tell DD about speaking Parseltongue and
hearing the voice in the walls even when DD ASKS him if there's
anythign he wants to tell him.

In PoA and in general, that they aren't that good at getting Malfoy
back for making fun of them; ESPECIALLY in PoA when he keeps bringing
up how the dementers affect Harry and the three of them don't bring
up what a baby he was being about his Hippograth "injuries".

In PoA when they are being so mean to Hermione. I thought she was
right to tell McGonagal about the firebolt; Sirius DID end up being
the one who sent it after all.

In PoA when Harry haves some fun with Malfoy while under the cloak;
funny, yes, but it seemed like too much of a risk--and it nearly blew
up in his face.

In PoA (upon second reading), the fact that Sirius takes his time
explaining himself (it seems like he had an opportunity when Hagrid
came to get Harry to tell him about Peter and switching the secret
keeper and all that, he was on his way to see DD, whether or not he
would have been believed, he didn't even try!-Then of course later on
in the shack when he doesn't tell Harry, Ron & Hermione that the
murder he's planning ISN'T Harry).

Again, in PoA when they decide to transport Peter AS A HUMAN, instead
of forcing him to turn into a rat again and magic up a cage to hold
him in. Even if Lupin hadn't turned into a werewolf it seemed too
easy for him to get away.

-Not exactly an ARGH! moment, just something that made me angry: In
OOP when the Dursley's decide to kick Harry out, knowing that will
mean someone might EASILY KILL HIM, that seemed rather callous, even
for them.

In OOP when Harry isn't practicing occulemency on his own time like
he says he is, AND when he doesn't go to Snape and ask to start the
lessons again.

In OOP when Harry looks into Snape's pensieve (as curious as *I* was
to see what was in there, I KNEW that Snape would catch him. Can you
even get out of a penieve without someone'e help?).

-There's probably about six more from OOP that I can't remember (only
read it one time so far).
