Me: Oh, I disagree. I think they both will have to be able to
overcome their hostility towards each other and I think that Severus
should put the lion share of effort in it. You know, being an adult
and all. :)
I have faith in Harry being able to forgive Snape in the end.
If Snape won't be able to do the same, I would be VERY disappointed.
I know that many many fans love Severus as he is right now and
everybody entitled to their opinion.
I love him too (very much, actually), but I love him because he is
trying to change. I don't want him to be the same at the end. I don't
want him to become NICE, but I want him to be able to overcome what
he feels towards Harry and find some peace.

Me: Yeah, they should've left Snape to Lupin, but it would be less
interesting.
Besides, Sev's hatred started much earlier than that.
Everyone defends what Sirius does

Me: I love Sirius. I am still in denial over his death, but him
loving Harry is far from being the only reason why I always defend
him.
I defend him, because I think that he paid more than enough for
whatever mistakes he did in his youth. I defend him, because I know
that he suffered in Azkaban unjustly. Say what you want about Karma,
but I think that twelve years in prison is a little too much for
bullying in school.
Of course, the fact that he loves Harry adds to the picture. I think
it is OK sometimes to evaluate the supporting characters based on
their attitude to the main character, especially if I am very fond of
the main one.
Yes, I know that in the Rowling books nothing is as it looks and
villain can pretend to be a nice guy and vice versa, but still...
You know, I just though of something else. Although Severus'
mysterious past is part of the attraction of this character for me,
it make harder for me sometimes to identify with him than with
Sirius. For example, I know Sirius is capable of love, looking at him
and Harry. Yes, he is capable of hate too, of course, but when I look
at Severus, I sometimes question whether he can love at all, or the
only feelings which he has left is his honor and his hate of the dead
man, which he transfers to his son.
I suspect that it is not true, but I would like to see it, that is
why I loved Pensieve scene so much.
By the way, I have to be honest and say something else. Before OOP I
was one hundred percent sure that whatever fate awaits Severus at the
end, he will never turn back to the Dark Side. After OOP, I have my
doubts. He disobeyed Dumbledore's direct order and I wonder whether
the saying "Once a traitor - always a traitor" will turn out to be
true.
I would be very upset if it happens. I want him being able to achieve
redemption, but again now I am not sure. Before OOP Dumbledore's
constant reminder that he trusts Snape was reassuring. After seeing
Dumbledore's stupidity it is not anymore, for me at least.
Again, I don't think that such scenario is very probable. I hope Sev
will surivive the war and will be able to have some happiness, but
with Rowling we never know, right? ;)
