This theory bases itself of the idea that Snape is in fact a double
agent, though he could also just be 'tailing a DE' in his spare time
(when not teaching) like some of the others in the Order.. Malfoy seems
to trust him, far as I can see.

Umbridge makes a remark that L. Malfoy speaks highly of him at one
point, so we do know he has some contact with the DEs. Its not 100
percent clear if Umbridge is a DeathEater, just evil on her own or just
a fanatical Fudge minion.. or if she was being controled by someone?

Ever think that perhaps Voldemort is attempting to look through Harry's
eyes through their 'link' at some times when he happens to be looking at
Snape and its a surge of annoyance that Snape is 'helping' Harry?

We don't know what 'relationship' Volde and Snape have after all. Snape
might be able to appear to be a loyal DE when in front on Volde due to
being excellent at hiding the truth, but Volde might have some 'doubts'
due to Snape's interfering with his plans, even if Snape does have to
appear to be loyal to Dumbledore so as to be 'useful' to the DEs. Being
a double agent is not an easy task, each side believing that Snape is
loyal to them.

I believe Snape is in fact loyal to Dumbledore, being as its far too
easy to 'slip up' and let Harry die, then give some excuse afterwards.
One wonders though how long he can string Voldemort along until he goes
one step too far? Will it be Harry or Dumbledore who rescues him? A
lot of his nastiness may be faked to make him look good to the kids of
the DeathEaters, who might report back to their parents if Snape showed
a moment of favor to anyone outside of them. So of course, he never
praises Hermione publicly for producing perfect potions or gives any
encouragement to Neville or Harry.

Now if Harry in fact had gotten access to Snape's thoughts concerning
the DEs, it would be death for Snape. Voldemort would know just from
picking Harry's brain through their link. Dumbledore did him no great
favor as having HIM teach Harry. In fact, it might have endangered
Snape's work within the Order, plus put a price on his head. Even his
own Slytherin students would have tried to off him after that.

Snape as head of Slytherin and a member of the Order, walks a fine line
between keeping the evil little spawn of DeathEater's happy with him and
working for the side of 'good'. If Draco Malfoy knew that Snape was
working against the DeathEaters or a spy, Snape would be a 'dead man
walking' the momment he went to daddy. One guesses he is an excellent
actor and is favoring Slytherin, with Dumbledore's blessings, to keep up
a front. All in all, he might despise Draco and the rest, without
showing it. He didn't put up much of a fight with McGonagall over
giving Harry and Co points for alerting the world about the return of
Voldemort. He backed off so quickly over it, I am surprized Draco
didn't whine. Though I suppose even Draco is not so stupid as to show
open support for the Dark Lord in front of teachers..
