As the DA return to Hogwarts for recovery following the battle with
the DE's, Harry continues to mourn Sirius's death. Ron, after being
attacked by the brain is babbling incoherently. Upon reaching
Hogwarts, Ron is hospitalized. Percy is reassigned to the Department
of Muggle Artifacts and the Department of Mysteries is decreed off-
limits by Ministry Command. Harry is then informed that the DA is to
be decommissioned.
In Harry's quarters, Lupin confronts the Harry, saying that Sirius's
body should have been returned to Grimmauld Place so that his remains
could have been stored in an ancient Black repository in the
basement. Lupin tells Harry that he must retrieve the body from the
ministry and, since Sirius left his memories in the brain room, thus
transferring them to Ron, Ron must also return to Grimmauld Place.
However, Dumbledore refuses to allow the Harry to leave Hogwarts.
Released from the hospital and faced with this news, Ron tries to
hire a broom to go back to the Grimmauld Place. He then starts a
brawl and is subsequently arrested, pending further psychiatric
examination. The arrest proves futile, though, when Ron escapes with
the help of Harry, Hermione, Luna, Neville and Cho. The crew then
steal brooms from the Quiddich Cupboard. To avoid pursuit, Harry
removes an integral part from the remaining brooms (their handles)
and, knowing that they've all probably destroyed their careers, the
six friends take their final voyage.
Meanwhile, the DE's have learned of the Grimmauld Place, and fear
that it could be a new weapon. Lead by the treacherous Lucius Malfoy,
the DE's set out to either destroy or capture Grimmauld Place.
Meanwhile Mr Weasley, Mrs Weasley and Mrs Figg arrive at Grimmauld
Place to keep watch. They quickly discover Kreacher is still there.
Suddenly, the DE's arrive, taking Mr Weasley, Mrs Weasley and Mrs
Figg prisoner. Shortly thereafter, Harry and his friend's arrive, but
his firebolt is damaged by the DE's. With the DE's threatening the
lives of their prisoners, Harry tries a bluff to regain control of
the situation, but is unsuccessful. Mrs Figg is killed Bellatrix.
Faced with no other choice, Harry surrenders his firebolt to the
DE's, yet in a last-ditch effort to gain the upper hand, activates
the broom's self-destruct mechanism. The six friends watch as Harry's
broom and 10 of the DE's are destroyed in the explosion.
Harry and party rescue Sirius's body from the Ministry and learn that
an unstable charm used to protect Grimmauld Place threatens the
stability of the house, which is likely to explode within minutes.
One factor of this instability, however, is the rejuvenating effect
it had on Sirius's body. With the house reaching critical mass,
Sirius finally achieves the health he had just before his death at
the Ministry. Malfoy, still alive on his own broom and angry at the
death of his comrades, flys through the window into the livingroom of
Grimmauld Place. There, he fights one-on-one with Harry, eventually
falling to his death. The six friends, Mr and Mrs Weasley, and Sirius
then escape using Malfoys broom, just as the house violently
explodes, a victim of its own dangerous protecting charms.
Under Harry's Invisibility Cloak, the group speeds to The Ministry.
Once there, the risky ceremony fal-tor-pan is performed, fusing
Sirius's memories, which resides in Ron's mind, with his body. With
the ceremony seemingly successful, a revived Sirius begins the long
journey of remembering his past and his friends. He questions why the
DA and the OOP risked their lives and careers to rescue him. As his
friend Harry reminds him, sometimes the "needs of the one outweigh
the needs of the many."
