I would have to assume that Quirrell normally didn't turn his
back on his class.  The twinge came when the =back= of Quirrell's
head was facing Harry.

(And hey, if I taught at Hogwarts, I wouldn't =ever= turn my back
on a class that might contain a Fred or George Weasley, or their
ilk!  :) )
