So, until the Forbidden Forest scene, when he catches Quirrell
drinking unicorn blood, Harry never happens to be facing the back of
Quirrell's head? That seems unlikely.
I am re-reading the passage now, on PS, UK page 94.
"Prof. Quirrell, in his absurd turban, was talkoing to a teacher with
greasy black hair, a hooked nose and sallow skin. It happened very
suddnely. The hook-nosed teacher looked past Quirrell's turban and
straight into Harry's eyes - and a sharp pain shot across the scar on
harry's forehead."
OK, that seems like Harry was looking at the side of Quirrell's head,
rather than the back, but let's assume for the minute that Quirrell
had turned all the way around in his chair to talk to Snape.
Perhaps the pain was because Voldemort was only "active" at certain
times and the Feast happened to be one of those times. The Forest
scene another. That's a simple explanation. :)
Or ... perhaps the pain, which we now know to be V-Mort's anger, that
Harry was feeling at the Feast was not directed at him, but at Snape,
which again, makes me question whether Snape can truly be a double-
agent if V-Mort knows of his previous betrayal. And that makes me
wonder what Snape's job out there truly is.
