About James being an arrogant school bully, well, Harry is different
from James, who was young and care free, and Harry has so many more
burdens, also he could be more like his mother in personality,
therefore "having her eyes" (windows to the soul?). After James gets
older he will became an Order member, mature and be able to work with
Snape in the Order, just like Sirius and Lupin were doing now.
Although I thought OoP was indeed a lot darker, I like the "hormone
Harry" that someone mentioned. Harry doesn't seem to have a spotty
skin, but you must remember that at 15 all the weird things happen to
your body, he seems to have grown a lot, and I see his as taller
rather than "short and skinny", so remember all the tantrums and
hormonal aggression that we had at 15, and see how OoP fits in
perfectly with the other 4 books as a growing teenager becames an
adult, or is rather forced to became one, while there is not so much
pressure in Ron and Hermy. Harry is having a tougher time than ever.

Cheers, Nineve.
