Haven't you heard?
James was a bullying toerag all the way until he died. He'd just gotten done
slapping Lily around when V-Mort came in. He didn't care about Lily at all,
since he forced her to marry him by using a Love Potion, or blackmailing her.
That "run Lily, I'll hold him off" was actually SNAPE, who had snuck in the
back entrance for his weekly tryst with Lily, who secretly loved Snape even
though he called her a mudblood, because everyone knows Snape is
"complex" (which can only be used to describe him if you say he is redeemed,
abused, victimized or misunderstood, but cannot be used to describe him as
racist, bullying, vindictive and lousy at his job.)
James didn't even want Harry. He was pressuring Lily to get an abortion, until
the prophecy came along, and D-Dore FORCED him to let the baby be born.
Did I get it all, or was there another bash of James I missed?
