Now me:
Hi everyone! This is my first post.
  
 I think Sirius is the most important character that could have 
died in OoP -Hagrid included-. The bond between Harry and Sirius  
was really important for the story -and the readers-. Harry is an 
orphan, he has already lost his parents... and now he loses the 
closest person in his life... again!
Sirius' death seems to have shocked Harry -and many of us- badly 
and I really think JK had achieved the top level of impact by killing 
him instead of Hagrid.
