Hi --

Steven:<<<<<Who is dating whom is not only the top subject of
conversation, but for many students it is the thing that is formost
on their minds, especially for girls. <snip>I have seen the girls in
action, if a girl of Hermione's age had interest in Ron, she would
either be making his life a living hell for not noticing or would be
totally ignoring, hoping to make his life a living hell.>>>>>>>

Kirstini: <<<<What rubbish. And rather offensively generalising, too. Your tone suggests that all "the girls" have only two possible personalities;
sadistic cow or stalker.>>>>>>>>>>

Whoa! I sure didn't get that impression from what Steven wrote, and I'm female. Granted, I was Hermione's age far more than 9 years ago (unfortunately), but still. I think Steven has a *very* valid point in fact. What say you R/H types: if Hermione likes Ron *that way* and as she surely *must* know he likes her *that way,* then why isn't she doing anything about it? She hardly seems the type to sit by idly, waiting patiently.

<<<<<<<< Hermione is an individual character whose
personality is simply not compatible with either of these two
standpoints (apologies to top ESE!Hermione theorist Kneasy). Neither,
I would imagine, are the vast majority of your students. As someone
who was Hermione's age nine years ago, I found her
procrastination/wearied acceptance very convincing. It's just not a
way she'd work.>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Procrastination? Wearied acceptance? Not following you, I'm afraid. I definitely don't see that she is wearily accepting that Ron is a late-bloomer and sitting idly by, twiddling her thumbs, hoping against hope that he'll eventually realize he has romantic feelings for her, content to just .......wait. No, that's not Hermione at all. Or, at least that's not my interpretation of her. I rather see her as the type who would let it be known that she returns his feelings .....she'd try to set the ball in motion somehow if that's what she really wanted.

So, reason #833 why I think she likes a certain someone else *that way*! <wink>

Penny
