Steven:>Who is dating whom is not only the top subject of
conversation, but for many students it is the thing that is formost
on their minds, especially for girls. <snip>I have seen the girls in
action, if a girl of Hermione's age had interest in Ron, she would
either be making his life a living hell for not noticing or would be
 totally ignoring, hoping to make his life a living hell.>

Me(Kirstini):
What rubbish. And rather offensively generalising, too. Your tone
suggests that all "the girls" have only two possible personalities;
sadistic cow or stalker. Hermione is an individual character whose
personality is simply not compatible with either of these two
standpoints (apologies to top ESE!Hermione theorist Kneasy). Neither,
I would imagine, are the vast majority of your students. As someone
who was Hermione's age nine years ago, I found her
procrastination/wearied acceptance very convincing. It's just not a
way she'd work.
