Im not 100% about this, but as far as I'm aware Quirrel had been in
the position of DADA prof for a while, and it was only when he
returned from travelling having encountered Voldemort that he became
the character we find in PS/SS. If this is true, the teaching
position itself was not the reason fo Q's behaviour.

Well clearly from the scene in Flourish and Blotts Lockhart was
always a vain so and so!!

IMO the fact that Lupin lived most of his life on the fringes of
society was the reason behind his longing for acceptance *not* the
DADA position.

Well, it wasnt really a desire to use others that made him do what
he did. He was one of V's most loyal DE's, something tells me he
had a fudamental flaw in his personality long before Hogwarts!

She's just evil anyway... she owns a quill that makes the user
write in their own blood!!! (I dont know why but this quill put me
in mind of the hand Draco picked up in that shop on knockturn Ally)

Yes that would be a rather frightening sight!
Basically, I dont actually think the DADA professorship (is this a
word?!!!) is cursed, the people who filled it were just unsuitable
(with the exception of Lupin who resigned because of other people's
narrow mindedness).
