This makes perfect sense James now I am thinking about it. Dumbledore
would have known about Snapes potions aptitude as well as his Dark
Arts history.

Dumbledore offers Snape a teaching position at Hogwarts and expects
Snape to *choose* _potions_ , because he is amazing at it.

Instead Snape eagerly requests the Dark Arts position.

Dumbledore raises an eyebrow.

Consider for a moment an especially talented potions master,
*choosing* to _teach_ not _learn_ a discipline he _may_ have less
aptitude for. What does this choice represent.

In the context of an angst ridden by his memories of cruel
*children*, ex Death Eater teaching *children* _not all nice ones or
ones he likes_ to defend themselves. It doesn't add up to much good.

Also I am thinking that a Defense against the Dark Arts teacher must
have a strong sense of what is Dark and how to justifiably defend
against it.
The pensieve scene actually proves that Severus was at 15 not
intuitively blessed with a sense of justice.
I will support this argument to anyone who wishes.
