Me too! (oops, I have transgressed list rules, mea culpa ;-)

My first thought was that this is an important clue. Just *who* is 
giving Alice Longbottom the Bubble Gum, for a start. Might it be the 
kind of gift that Bode got for Christmas, perhaps, but not so deadly? Is 
a certain L Malfoy donating contaminated treats for the permanent 
residents of the Janus Thickey ward? I wonder if there is a way of 
testing those wrappers for any potion contamination? Of course, the 
person best suited to helping with that question is Snape! I can't see 
Neville plucking up enough courage to ask him yet.
