Sounds like a good fic, Cindy-I will have to take a look!
 also had the theory that the parental feud might be over Snape Sr.'s prejudices, but I didn't mean to imply that Severus was neccessarily not a "pure-blood". The notion I had was rather that Mrs. Snape may have tried hiding with Muggle in-laws; and concealing her son might involve a name change. If something like that did happen, I can well imagine her "cowering" when discovered. I can also imagine Snape Sr. taking litttle Severus away, beyond his mother's reach. Ifthere turns out to be a Tonks/Evans family connection, I wouldn't be at all surprised. 
Anyway, my theory does coonect Severus Snape-Persues Evans to the Evans family, through Andromeda Black-Tonks family, if the Tonks and Evanses are related. Oh, I forgot to add, this could have happened at a very young age, 3-5, so memories might be very fuzzy. Finding out the truth of those memories seems like a reasonable catylast for returning from the DEs.
