Theory - Harry descended from Gryffindor via Lily?

the James/Lily FAQ only asks if James is descended from GG, but i 
noticed something

A) a common interpretation of CoS is that Harry is descended from GG

B) Lily is "naturally" a Gryffindor (from JKR interview 16 oct 2000)

C) we have no concrete evidence beyond Petunia's word that Lily's parents weren't 
wizards, do we? couldn't, then, she be lying? perhaps Petunia was a squib, instead? 
bitterness, repressed memories, and/or lies could explain what we 'know' about it.
