So it sounds like Dumbledore didn't know much about Riddle's background,
he had to ask about it, himself, and Tom only knew what the orphanage staff
told him. I recall some other point where Riddle reveals that he did have
surviving family on his father's side, but that they rejected him because of his
wizarding background.

Well, I think it's incorrect to assume that Dumbledore knew anything about Riddle's family background to begin with. I also don't think Riddle said anything about having other Muggle family or even that he looked for them... but I could be wrong. The only family he would have had, however, would be distant cousins and great-aunts and uncles, as Tom Riddle (LV's father) was an only child.
Susannacedric mentioned the similarities between Figg and McGonagall, but never gave her conclusion- Im assuming you're postulating that they are sisters. Right? I didn't think about this, but I think it's an interesting theory. One or both of them would have been married (or still is)... though JKR mentioned that some faculty members are or were married. I'm curious who Arabella's parents are, who she's related to... if she perhaps had any siblings?...
I'm wondering if there's not a distant Slytherin relation still out there. For that lnie to die out completely when all the purebloods are interrelated, seems odd. If this lineage had ceased centuries ago, when muggleborn and half-blood wizards were really not much in existance, it would make more sense, I think...
Another Susan (atraposgryffin) said I never thought about Ving Rhames playing Kingsley; the first (and admittedly only, but I didn't think about it too much) person who popped into my mind was Michael Clarke Duncan (the one from The Whole Nine Yards, The Green Mile). Though I could see Ving being a good idea... but neither of them are British, and I don't think they'll cast a non-Brit for the role. I wish I knew more British actors... I know only a couple handfuls. I'll have to do a good internet search to familiarize myself with more British actors than just the one's Hollywood's noticed. Either way, I can't wait to see who they have to step into Oh So Sexy Kingsley's role. :) :)
