I don't consider it jolly joking. I consider it self-defense and giving the bully a 
taste of his own medicine.

Draco and Co, in both GoF and OoP, try to corner Harry by himself or Harry 
and his friends and attack them. Friends of Harry's leap to his defense and 
Draco and Co. get nailed.

To quote Sean Connery in the Untouchables:

"He brings a knife, you bring a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you 
send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way!"

Look, I've got no sympathy for Draco attempting to use three guys to beat up 
one guy and then, whoops, getting his ass kicked when he finds out the one 
guy has friends.

Now, if it was one-on-one and everyone piled on Draco, I'd feel differently, but 
it's not.
