Couldn't resist doing another Percy post!
Missy:

I think Percy wasn't very interested. Because of the investigation into
Barty's death, he was very wrapped up in that - quite rightly of course, he
could quite easily have been convicted of criminal negligence or even being
an accessory to kidnapping and murder, especially given the rickety state of
justice in the WW. So he just wasn't listening to all the talk about the
Order.

It could so easily have gone the other way, couldn't it. Percy comes home
after hearing that he's not going to prison and that he's going to be
working directly for the Minister. Arthur tells him sympathetically how
lucky he's been, how the Barty business was a mistake on his part and
everyone's allowed a mistake, how worried he and Molly have been. Molly
cracks open some gooseberry champagne and they all have a fun evening. When
Percy starts his new job, Arthur makes a point of always having lunch and a
drink with him in the canteen, just so that he can keep up with all the
gossip in the Minister's office and before you know it, Percy is the Order's
greatest asset in the Ministry.
But that didn't happen (which is why I don't agree with the folks who think
that Percy is working undercover)
As it probably happened, Percy came home, everyone was so busy thinking
about the Order and Voldemort that no one even asked him about his meeting
with Fudge. When he volunteered what had happened, Arthur accused him of
being a spy. Percy (of course) blew his stack - what did Arthur expect,
after all, that he'd throw up Fudge's offer and say no, send me to prison
for the rest of my natural - dragged up all his frustrations, lack of
support while the investigation was going on, Arthur's reputation as a bit
of a nutter in the Ministry, and it all went downhill from there.
> Of course, I am a bit miffed at Percy at the moment. I just hope the
> arrogant fool has the good sense to apologize to his family. I think
But I'm afraid he won't. Not only did he storm off but he's spent almost a
year listening to everything that Fudge and his spin doctors have been
saying (who's he been having lunch with in the canteen? Not our side, I'm
sure) and I think that's hardened his attitude. He didn't have to send his
Xmas present back, even if he was still too ticked off to visit Arthur in
hospital.

I don't think his role in the story is over - I think he's going to have to
redeem himself, and may well end up dying in the process.
That's the second post I've made tonight killing someone off, I'd better
shut up now =8-)
