The Sergeant Majorette says:
The Bible, baseball, soccer, boarding school, middle management,
international politics, classical mythology; JKR is not drawing from
any of these for her work. These are eternal verities that will
influence the work of any author that lives in the world. You cannot,
for example, write a realistic story involving teenage boys that does
not involve team sports; you cannot write a story about teenage girls
(that girls will read) that does not involve teenage boys. How we
feel about Hermione is a function of how we dealt with the Hermione
we knew (or were). Virtually everyone will be coming from some
religious belief system or other.
Probably these kinds of long-form analyses tell us more about the
analysts than they do about JKR and the Potterverse; as such,
however, they are interesting and worthwhile reading.
