Hermione attempted murder!

I agree with Bill. I do not think that Hermione was consciously
trying to kill Umbridge (although she *was* about to expell Hermione
and the gang...so if ever an arguement could be made!). The centaurs
had let Hagrid go on the previous occasion, and they were mad at him
specifically. Also Umbridge is *supposed* to be a witch and had her
wand out and ready. I think that Hermione was hoping that the
centaurs would create a diversion so that she and Harry could escape.
Obviously JKR did not want Umbridge's death on Hermione's hands since
she had Dumbledore rescue her at the end of the book, rather as an
after-thought, it seemed. (My goodness, AD was a busy boy that
night!) Even so, by my calculations, it must have been *hours*
between the time that Umbridge was carried off by the centaurs and
when AD had a free minute to go and rescue her. What do you suppose
they were doing...giving her a last meal or something???? They
really don't seem like the types to go in for torture. Elle
