A.G. asked, about why Lupin can't be cured via the Homorphus Charm:

I apologize in return if you've already been answered this time round; my
email is still downloading.

The answer I always post is that I don't think the charm is permanent. The
root means "man shape" or "man form" or something, and I imagine it turns a
transfigured or transformed or otherwise re-shaped human back into a human.
I think the effect is impermanent--most of the spells we've seen wear off
after a bit.

I imagine, therefore, the reason using the Charm saved the village, was that
when it was cast on the werewolf in question, the rest of the villagers
could see who it was, and take appropriate action in the light of day. There
wouldn't be anything keeping the werewolf from turning back into his wolf
form the next night.
