OK, he loves big creatures. He's a big guy. And he
has a hard time "sizing down" his interests to share
them with the kids.

Del:
Nope : he has a hard time putting the kids'
interests first.
Basically, he thinks that because he likes
something, the kids will too. He doesn't care about
what THEY want or need, only about what HE likes.

Me<Vinnia>:
I agree. I liked Hagrid before OoP. His action could
be justified. I mean, when he has hippogriffs for the
first lesson, he has a good intention. In GoF, no one
really told him that the skrewts are not a proper
creature to study, it's too dangerous. But in OoP,
Hermione tells him clearly what he should do. Does he
listen? No. He believes that he is right. Oh how I
hate it when he completely ignored Hermione's words
(at the end of chapter 20)!

I wonder if it has ever crossed Hagrid's mind that
keeping Aragog is exactly what caused his expulsion.

Personally, I kinda wish that Hagrid had been the one
to go. Oh well...maybe in book 6.

zebco606 :

And I know he's brought a lot of aggravation...but
what would you put up with for absolute trust.

Del:
If you will remember, absolute trust is precisely what
brought Harry to make a most stupid and careless
promise to Hagrid in OoP, one that could have resulted
in his and Hermione's death...

Me<Vinnia> :
The same trust also nearly causes Harry and Ron to be
Acromantula's supper.

Just my opinion
