The one Hagrid characteristic which stands out in his teaching is his huge
_enthusiasm_ for the subject. He comes over as full of almost excitement
when he's dealing with magical creatures (and his acceptance of them for
what they are leads him to recklessness when it comes to dealing with them
safely (or more to the point when more fragile people have to deal with them
safely)).
If all his students shared that enthusiasm, then I think he'd inspire.
But that's not what school teaching is all about. Because there is always
going to be a group of students who don't really give a toss about the
subject, they're just doing it because they have to or because they want the
piece of paper, and there's going to be another group of students who will
take the opportunity to cause trouble. Add to that the usual need for
"constant vigilance" because you can never quite be sure that they've all
_listened_ to what you said about how to handle the creatures or if they've
_listened_, whether they've _understood_! All of this is stuff that
Grubbly-Plank does much better.
A shame in a way...
Cheers
