Silmariel:
>> Josephine and I could post about why we don't like Harry, it isn't
a crime. And it is inevitable you like or don't a character.
I am not atacking Harry by saying I don't like hime, and he's boring.
I also find Superman boring and dull, quite stupid sometimes.

But I have the right to chat to Josephine about our dislikements, if
we like and are canon based. I wouldn't flame a person for disliking
Hermione or Ron, for example. <<

Absolutely Silmariel. I agree, and did not intend to criticize or
flame. I was honestly trying to say that, Yes, I understand where
Josephine was coming from, that it was perfectly valid, that I had
had similar thoughts at one time --- and trying to put across my
point of view on what I find attractive and identifiable with Harry
now. Apparently I was clumsy – my apologies to both Josephine and
you.

In fact, I would be more than pleased to join the chat about why
Harry is dull, and why quite a few people I know aren't exactly
taken with him. I have been on both sides of that fence and remember
some of the arguments I had with myself. I love Harry, but like other
characters as much if not better. It would be intriguing to look at
how exactly Rowling portrays Harry, authorial intent and its
effectiveness regarding reader perceptions. Do we love Harry because
we are told he is the hero and is likeable? Harry is a character open
to many interpretations, each perfectly valid and acceptable in real
life. I personally, would love to look at the different facets of
Harry as seen by different people – we have frequently discussed
our views on other characters (Snape, Dudly and Draco get more than
their fair share of psychoanalysis – poor Darrin <eg>) but
surprisingly little on Harry recently other than to comment on his
anger, and Jenny's stout "in defense of Harry" posts.
It's time for a series of essays on "Harry the dull", "Harry the
complex", "Harry the ultimate hero" "UltraSexy! Harry", "Harry the
Berk" "Annoying!Harry" "Evil Harry" "Harry the everyday guy"....and
so on... anyone care to oblige?
