I agree that the hooked-nosed man in the memory could have been Snape
himself but I doubt this highly. First of all , I think that Harry
would have recognized Snape , furthermore the other memories he sees
(the boy in the bedroom , the bucking broomstick) are childhood
memories as well so I just can't see why the first one should be an
exception. Beside , it seems as Harry identified the boy crying in th
corner as Snape since he thinks something alike to : "it was
unnerving to think that the little boy who had been crying as he
watched his parents shouting was actually standing in front of him
with such loathing in his eyes ..."
So I assume it was Snape's father we have seen while he was shouting
at his mother.

Nevertheless I still can see Florence (or another girl Snape was in
love with) in those memories. Where ? Let's try the girl who "was
laughing as a scrawny boy tried to mount a bucking broomstick.
There is no evidence she was laughing at "him" , we only learn that
she was laughing because the whole situation was kind of funny. It
may have been a good-natured laugh between two friends , nothing more.
The broomstick incident might have happened during his schooldays at
Hogwarts since it reminds me very strongly of - NEVILLE ! Just
remember his first flying lesson in book 1 : His broomstick was also
bucking WITHOUT being hexed , just because he was so afraid and had
absolutely no self-confidence.
Actually I see Kid!Snape as someone as angsty and insecure as Neville
is. Obviously this has nothing to do with lack of talent or
intelligence. We know that Neville can be a good student and we also
know that he can be very brave - always remember he has been sorted
into Gryffindor for a reason ! I think his "problem" is that he
suffers greatly from his parents illness and the fact that they had
been tortured by some DEs. That's what overshadowed his whole
childhood and probably caused his lack of self-confidence.
Now there is Snape who probably comes from an abusive family. The
memory with the crying boy and the shouting man says quite a lot and
it doesn't really give the impression of a loving upbringing. Then
there's the fact that his clothes seem to be a little filthy as does
the dark room with the flies. We know from the Weasleys that being a
pureblood doesn't necessarily mean you're rich so it is quite
possible that the Snapes weren't exactly wealthy.
I can see little Severus suffering from all this as does Neville from
his parents' illness. Just remember how easily the Marauders were
able to taunt him despite the fact that Snape was said to be knee-
deep into the dark arts. He didn't really defend himself (except one
curse he shot at James). IMHO , this has nothing to do with him not
having sufficient knowledge or talent but simply with the fact that
he was too scared to do anything really effective. This is also
something which reminds me very strongly of Neville.
So back to the bucking broomstick. Yes , I believe that Snape (at
least in his first years at Hogwarts) was an absolutely disastrous
student when it came to flying lessons. This may also be the reason
Lupin always told Harry that Snape was jealous of James because of
his talent on the Quidditch pitch. He may have really believed he was
since Snape wasn't even able to mount (!) a broomstick.
So here is my try on the laughing girl : What about Florence teaching
young Snape how to fly ? She must have been succesful since we know
that Snape even managed to play Quidditch later on (he must have -
otherwise he couldn't have been a referee during Harry's Quidditch
match in book 1). He also seems to be quite passionate about
Quidditch , at least he never seems to miss a match and really likes
to discuss them with McGonnagall.
This flying lessons may have been the start of a friendship with
Florence which resulted in the infamous kiss behind the greenhouse. I
still can't fathom why Dumbledore seems to be so sad about the fact
that Bertha went after them but it may be a hint that Florence is
already dead. I don't know why but I have the strong feeling that she
died as a teenager although I can't exactly tell you why.

Just my thoughts ...
