The Sergeant Majorette says:
This is more like it. The only sensible way to analyze the characters
is in the context of the structure that the author has established.
I can only add, remember that JKR is British. I once saw an English
movie about London during the Blitz. The children found ways of
coping with death and fear in ways that we spoiled Americans found
shocking (e.g., the girl whose parents had just been killed charging
the boys to look under her dress). The end of the movie was just so
heartwarming and uplifting, however: the kids pick their way through
the ruins of London to find their school has been reduced to smoking
rubble. For the first half-second, they mirror the stunned looks on
the tear-stained faces of the teachers. Then they all leap into the
air with a resounding mighty cheer (roll credits). That's the world
of Harry Potter.
