Lots of people keep suggesting that someone paint a portrait of
Sirius as a way to 'bring him back'. All I know about magical
portraits is that that question was answered in the following post,

I don't really know how canon the group is treating the extras from
the DVD's and I'm not sure if this is too close to mentioning movie
stuff on the main list, but I'm going to say it anyway.
In the extras on the DVD, you can view DD's office, complete with
paintings. It has a voice over that explains that in order to make a
painting that moves around, you must first commission the painting
and then put some bit of yourself in it (hair, fingernail, piece of
skin, etc). This can ONLY be done while the person is ALIVE, and it
cannot be done posthumously. Because it also takes time/money, a
lot of people don't do it until they're older (hence, no portrait of
Lily, James or Sirius).
But, until we see something in an interview an/or books, I don't know
if this will suffice as an explanation.
