Is it beyond the pale to suggest that in goading Harry this way,
Sirius unintentionally sealed both Harry's fate and his own? With
that kind of thing still ringing in his head, Harry could not afford
to turn away from the opportunity to rescue Sirius when believed
Sirius was in danger. Had he not been goaded that way, it's very
concievable that he would have kept a cooler head about him,
considered (at least) Ron's suggestion that the image of Sirius being
tortured was Lord V.'s diversionary tactic to lure Harry (and the
others) into a trap -- and the disaster in the Ministry might well
have been avoided.
Melanie replied: I think that is very ridiculous! I'm sorry but lets face it Harry is not afraid of danger, he wanted to know what was going on in Voldemort's head not because of what Sirius said but because he felt as though this might be a gift, a gift to help him defeat Voldie and protect his friends.
Let's just face the facts Harry is not regardless of what Sirius said a very cautious person. He has faced Voldemort four times now...to blame it on Sirius is ridiculous.
And I'm sorry I think we are confusing Sirius's desire to involved in his godson's life (I'm sorry but he even told Kreacher he cared for Harry, we all know he cared he wanted to protect him) with arrogance. I don't think it is that horrible for a person to have want to spend time with the person they were suppossed to have guardianship for after being seperated from them for 13 years. I think it's really sad that we are insulting Sirius in this manner, whether he was a good person or a bad person He WAS important. He was the only person Harry felt like he could turn to. He was his father. He was important, and I maintain still will be important, because Harry finds him important. A character only has as much power and pull in a story as the main character allows them to. We cannont deny that Sirius was extremely important to Harry.
And lets not forget that if Sirius was this arrogant and egocentric person he would not have been so kind to Weasley children. He sat with them, comforted them, and tried his best to make everyone happy. He did not have to do this after all, he did this because he cared. Because he knew what it was like to loose someone you love. An arogant person would have not put that much care into someone else's children. One could argue that all of these things that Sirius is doing are all motivated for his own benefit. But hello very few people on this Earth do things were they are getting no benefit from it at all. Lets just face it you guys Sirius would have never put Harry in any danger, we know this because of the occumlemncy scene. He might have put hisself in danger but I think most of us agree that if one of our children was struggling with life (and hurting as much as Harry) then we would do everything we can to protect them. I think in the end that was Sirius motivations not
anything else.
~Melanie, who is a biased Sirius fan...not because she thinks he is perfect....it's his imperfections that make him a truly great character. They also made him a realistic person. :)
We shall never forget Sirius Black....long live his memory!
