First off, this is my first post to this list, so howdy-do! I'm Colleen and
I'm from NY (any other big apple residents out there?) Still getting used to
the absolute new-found volume in my in-box though hehe
There have been a couple of mentions of Mark Evans (the kid Dudley and his
gang pounded) possibly being related to Lily. Although I agree that JKR has
never, ever thrown a name in just for the hell of it and certainly not a
bell-ringing name like Evans, the canon has stated many times that Harry has no other
living relatives than the Dursleys. Dumbledore said it in the first chapter of
SS when PM asks if the baby could possibly be dropped off anywhere else, and
it is brought up again when the issue of the power of blood relatives comes
into play. If there were a few more Evan's living right down the road, I think
Dumbledore would have at least checked it out and there is no possible way that
the other family would have been worse than the Dursleys. I think its time to
start scheming for other possibilities as to why the name popped up....
As far as Harry teaching the subject, this is actually where I always saw him
eventually ending up-especially during PoA when he was such a protege` of
Lupin's. It's where he's most comfortable and where his talents lie (as shown
with DA). As of now, Lupin is the only Marauder who really hasn't been given his
clear and cut purpose in Harry's life-sure he was a teacher, but wouldn't it be
more significant if he was the one who in the end was Harry's guide? James
and Sirius helped him until their deaths and Peter is obviously out of the
question-I just feel that Lupin needs more of a fulfilling role.
But this is all for when he's well out of school(if he makes it which i think
he will)-I have to agree with the possibility of him being a TA doesn't have
much weight-Harry is singled out enough and given flack for it. The last thing
that Dumbledore and especially Snape would want is to see Harry given more
special treatment and made out to be a cut above the rest. Dumbledore has worked
so hard to give Harry the most "normal" childhood as was possible.

p.s.-I can't express how much i am enjoying this list! everyone has such
insightful views on the text and it is facinating to watch and partake on
discussions-must say I am learning quite a bit that I would have never pulled out of
the text on my own!
