Actually, if a wizard holds himself back from death (thus becoming a 
ghost) he might actually be saving himself from oblivion.  Just 
because ghosts exist does not mean there is life after death for 
those who don't become ghosts.  Harry himself is unsure about whether 
or not there is anything after life, and is somewhat skeptical when 
Luna mentions the voices behind the veil as proof of an afterlife.
