I guess I have been missing some posts because that would raise my 
hackles too. What a tremendous over-simplification of characters and 
events. I do feel somehow through the changes he underwent that JKR 
was foreshadowing his death. I can't say how but by Christmas time, I 
knew it would be him and I prayed I was wrong. Did you feel that?
