I think you have it all wrong.  The Mirror shows you what you want to see, 
not what is.

I think all of those images came from Harry's head, the mirror made a family 
that all look a bit like him.  It is an illusion.

Since Harry has no previous idea what his family looks like it took his ideas 
of what they should look like, to resemble him.

Look, no one looked like petunia with her pale eyes and long neck, no one 
looked like Dudley.  Why?  Because they don't have positive conotations with him.

That is to say...

Example:If Ron read all about the Chudley Cannons, but never seen a picture 
of them, and never seen a picture of the Trophy of the Qudditch world cup, only 
descriptions if that.  And his greatest wish, his heart's desire was to be 
the Captine of the Cannons and win the Cup and he looked in the mirror the 
Uniform Robes and the Cup might not look anything like they do in reality because 
the only basis is in his mind, not in reality.  If Ron had seen pictures of 
them, then they would reflect reality.
