Aha!  I'm glad I'm not the only one who suspects that Snape's 
physical characterization is based primarily on stereotype.  For 
someone who does his best to verbally belittle others on a regular 
basis, you'd think he'd pay more attention to his own deficiencies, 
wouldn't you?

Yes!  As soon as I really started looking at Snape, the similarities 
between him and Avon became really clear-- especially the way that 
JKR always describes him as speaking "smoothly" or "silkily."  And 
then there's his habit of wearing black, and all the sneering.  It 
would be really funny to throw the two of them in a box together and 
see who'd crawl out at the end.

I could go on about Avon vs. Snape at length, but I think it would be 
a bit too off-topic for the list.  I love a good B7 discussion, 
though, so please feel free to email me if you want to compare notes 
on the subject!
