Oh, I'm sure that would be the reason he was written that way, but, as
with most things, there's the authors reasons for putting it in, and 
then there is the explanation for how it fits in the universe.

Then, of course, I could explain it as simply that most teenagers tend
to go through a phase where they have greasy hair, and the hair is an
symbollic of the fact that Snape, much like Sirius, has never 
emotionally matured beyond that age, but then, the three explanations 
are hardly mutually exclusive...

Actually, I think there is something specifically about witty,
sarcastic men in black that does it. That, and there's a certain
tendancy to be attracted to people who you *know* are entirely wrong
for you to be accounted for...
