I guess I have been missing some posts because that
would raise my hackles too. What a tremendous
over-simplification of characters and events. I do
feel somehow through the changes he underwent that JKR
was foreshadowing his death. I can't say how but by
Christmas time, I knew it would be him and I prayed
I was wrong. Did you feel that?

I saw the foreshadowing all over the place...of course,
I was reading the book going "who is it going to be,
Sirius or Hagrid?" the whole time. Before reading the
Ootp, I was terrified that we were going to lose Hagrid
because of that interview statement by Rowling that Harry
would "lose one of his *biggest* fans". Then when
she started dropping hints here and there about Sirius'
reckless attitude, and _especially_ when Harry left
headquarters after christmas to go back to school on the
Knight bus:
<Sirius gives Harry the mirror package>
"...but he knew he would never use whatever it was. It
would not be he, Harry, who lured Sirius from his place
of safety, no matter how foully Snape treated him in their
forthcoming Occlumency classes."
-snip-
"It was his last chance to tell Sirius to be careful; he
turned, looked into his godfather's face and opened his
mouth to speak, but before he could do so Sirius was
giving him a brief, one-armed hug..." (and then Harry was
hurried away)
(Ootp Amer. 523)
That in my mind sealed the deal. Sirius was going to go.
