He /Freed/ the Philosopher's stone from the mirror. He /Freed/ Dobby
with a sock. He /Freed/ Petigew saving his life. He /Freed/
Voldemort from his disgusting state. He /Freed/ the Prophesy. You
see where I'm going.

Nemi I am very excited about this one.
Dumbledore says he sees a nice pair of socks in Erised, he is hiding
the truth that he sees Harry happy, safe and *free* of suffering.
Dumbledore, as we know, tends only to allow himself to bend the truth
rather than outright lying. So a free happy Harry, must be a pair of
nice socks. The kind you can never have enough of.
The analogy therefore is extremely important.
I daresay socks are symbolising even more than freedom and I hope to
see a list of "socks" quotes up for analysis.
One last point I remember reading a JKR interview where she does
offer a hint that Socks are a _lot_ important. Does anyone else
remember that?
