Malfoy needs a good dose of humility.

I was arguing the general principle, without regard to the 
identity of the teacher involved.

You didn't answer the question I posed about the use of other 
spells on Malfoy.

It isn't clear, at least to me, that wand-breaking is a 
punishment, as opposed to an administrative action.  For 
instance, a person subject to seizures might have his driving 
license revoked, but that is not a punishment; or a person who 
has demonstrated that he is unable to operate an amateur radio 
station within the rules might have his license revoked.
