No kidding.  The Longbottoms didn't invent the gum?  I'm shocked (kidding!)  Did you actually read my entire post?  Right after the anagram part I said:

The readers (us) are the ones looking for anagrams, not Neville.  JKR has stated that she left clues in OoP for us.  IMHO, that's one.  Sure, the Longbottoms didn't invent or name Drooble's Best Blowing Gum.  But JKR did.  The clue is not there for Neville to find, it's there for the readers.  My point (which apparently I didn't make too well) was that JKR may be pointing out the gum as the source of the Longbottoms continued insanity.  Seeing as we already know that Malfoy gives generous donations to St Mungos.  I'm not saying that all Drooble's Best Blowing Gum makes people insane.  Something could be slipped into theirs, it's not like that many people are there to see.  Even if the gum isn't the source of the problem, it could still be a clue for *readers.*  Not for Neville.  For readers.
