A lot of people have mentioned the significance of Lupin's last name
(Lupin meaning "wolf like" or something similar in latin), but his
first name is significant as well:

In the legend of the founding of Rome, two twin brothers Romulus and
Remus were sent down a river by their uncle because he thought they
would take his throne. But instead of drowning, they were taken in
and raised by a wolf. Romulus later killed Remus and founded Rome.

Now, I am not saying that Lupin is going to have a twin brother who
is going to kill him, but I think it is cool how Rowling brought the
name significance in twice with Remus Lupin's name and him being a
werewolf.
