Seeing that our friend Voldemort has the ability (and the liklihood) 
of possessing those close to his enemies (thinking that their love 
weakens them) so he won't be killed, isn't it possible that at some 
point he will possess Lupin? Lupin being a werewolf would be more 
vulnerable to silver. It could be peter showing a last defiant 
gesture to absolve his soul of his wrong doings, or Harry using his 
hand (of a dead Peter) to kill the last of the 4 friends.
