I would hardly describe unicorns as "cute and cuddly critters" :-) 
Horses aren't already that cute and cuddly, so horses with a long 
pointy horn on the forefront...

Moreover, my point is that Hagrid is supposed to teach them Care of 
Magical Creatures, not Hunting for and Breeding of Highly Dangerous 
and Magical Monsters. So while I agree that there are dangerous 
magical creatures that the kids have to learn to take care of, I 
don't think it is appropriate for Hagrid to go and look for extra-
curricular monsters, and even worse, to breed them.
