I have decided to repost something I wrote earlier about this
subject, which is unusual for me. But, it wasn't replied to last
time I think I caught the tail end of the thread. So here's hoping
my suggestion gets debated at more length this time round.:D
In some personal correspondence a fellow HP worshipper and I have
elaborated on some conjecture about who is Harry's Godmother. I made
a wildly stupid guess, thinking I would be laughed at till next book
release, I guessed Minerva Macgonagall. ...<snip>

character in the books is guilty of the same act of love.<snip>
Now karenoc1:
This is a really good theory, and I think I'm almost convinced.
You're right; it's clear that McGonnagall has a soft spot for Harry--
she's almost grandmotherly! But I'm not certain if that may be due
to anything more than an extreme fondness for Lily and James. Still,
why did she camp out at the Dursleys after Voldemort attacked? Why
would she be *more* concerned about young Harry's fate than the other
members of the original Order? I'm just not sure.
The only other thing that bothers me is the recurring question about
Harry's grandparents or other relatives. Why don't they make
themselves known to Harry? If McGonnagall is Harry's godmother, why
didn't she tell him? I just don't think that maintaining the student-
professor relationship would be enough of an explanation....
