I generally agreed with Harry being passive, but there were a few things in this post that I wanted to reply to:

I think that Harry and Ron are just not as anal about it as Hermoine. They are used to relying on her help with homework, but are able to do it when she doesn't as evidenced by their going to the library over lunch hour to look up the uses of moonbeam.
They let her make up study schedules for them because it's easier than fighting her about it. They may or may not actually use them. My belief is that they would manage to do their homework and studies without Hermoine fine, but it's easy to ask for her help and it's easy not to fight her organizational ideas.

I've wondered about this, as well. Ever sense we've learned that James was an animagus, I've thought Harry would work on that and have been surprised that he hasn't.

Age is a barrier because he would have to take a test before he can legally Apparate. It seems to be a spell that is monitored by the MoM. In learning the Patronus charm, age was a barrier only because it was thought to be too difficult for a young wizard to do, not because there is a law against it. There a law is against Apparating under age.
