Hagrid will be the one to learn magic late in life. Yes, he can do
some magic (if illegally) <SNIP>

Hagrid is no longer illegal. JKR said in interview that once he
was cleared in COS he was free to do magic... <SNIP>

<Robyn>
Despite what JKR said in that interview, and the fact that Hagrid
was cleared in COS, what Hagrid himself says seems to contradict
this. In "Hagrid's Tale", p 425 (American edition), of OoP, Hagrid
recounts the journey to find the giants. He says, "We had to go
slow, 'cause I'm not really s'posed ter use magic an' we knew the
Ministry'd be lookin' fer a reason ter run us in."

<Me, again-A.G.>

Turn the page-on pg 426-(paraphrasing quite a bit) they chanced magic
after that, then had to lay off because giants don't like witches and
wizards and they didn't want there backs up and also because Dd did
not want them to draw attention to themselves because of spies for
Voldemort.

<Robyn cont.>
I think Hagrid could be the person JKR referred to as using
magic "late in life"; and that the occasion in which he will do so,
will be to save Dumbledore's life. This could have been foreshadowed
in SS when Dumbledore said: "I would trust Hagrid with my life."

<A.G. again>
Be very careful about discarding JKR interview statements-she is
after all the ultimate "canon" on anything-is she not? If pg. 425
contradicts her remarks, then we may need clarification from her or
may have to assume we have a small "flint".

Ultimately, you have proved the power of JKR's interview statements
on your own-aren't we debating such a statement regarding "magic late
in life"? I have never read the "magic late in life" any place so if
someone can give me the link I would love to see it. But I have
read on this site, your posts and others, saying JKR said (I'm
paraphrasing) someone will use magic late in life as a result of an
extreme situation demanding it.

Now, I, too beleive Hagrid could be the person JKR referred to as
using magic "late in life"; I even posted on this and did a top ten
list of possible candidates. I also think he will learn more and
more magic and may indeed ultimately save Dd.

But, I am still adamant that if JKR says Hagrid can now do magic
legally-but he struggles due to incomplete education, we have to
believe her.
