Yeah, it's strange how nowadays, if two people of any gender are 
friends, everyone jumps to conclusions about them dating, whether 
it's a homosexual or heterosexual relationship.  In fact, same thing 
if two characters are enemies.  I agree with the above post; any 
relationships relavent to the plot will be revealed, while all others 
are hidden.  For the record, I believe Sirius and Lupin were friends, 
nothing more.  And, while JKR does take on some heavy topics like 
death and racism, I don't see her tackling gay relationships any time 
soon.  Nor do I see her pairing up two heterosexual couples unless 
there's a reason.  So some of your favourite ships, no matter what 
characters are involved, may never be seen in  the books.

As I've said before, that's what fan fiction is for, I guess.
